Hi there! Did you know that here at Akela we are a small and friendly team of dog (and cat) lovers who just want to help you get the best food for your dog, cat or working dog?
Here are our main show team – the ones you will meet out and about over 2017 at dog events up and down the country.

With a family background in horticulture and agriculture, my foray into the Pet Care market began on my Sales Graduate Scheme with one of the leading consumer goods companies. After nutrition training, I started as a Regional Account Manager and was then promoted to National Account Manager. I was surprised at how little was being spent on the food itself, with grain being the main ingredient, compared to the excessive marketing budgets. It was during this time that I discovered that I was gluten and dairy intolerant myself. I was compelled to develop a healthier recipe and spent two years perfecting the original Akela recipe with leading canine nutritionists. I named it after the leader of the wolf pack, having been a Cub Scout as a child. Since then Akela has come a long way, most recently taking me into the Dragons Den. Luckily I came out unscathed as wolves eat dragons for breakfast!

I’ve spent the last 30 years owning varying breeds of dogs with the last 9 years being devoted to my own 4 Northern Inuits. My experiences include breeding, showing, training and more recently researching (and dealing with!) sensitive stomachs and fussy eating!
I started researching what was in pet foods after my own dog became critically ill in 2015 believed to be from a change of dog food. I was looking for an affordable food (having 4 large dogs to feed myself) it had to have all the goodness in it that I wanted them to have and without any nasty’s included. After a long journey I luckily stumbled across Akela WholePrey. Gone are the fussy bunch with their runny tums, they now finish all their meals in seconds and look a picture of health on the outside and in. I’m now proud to be a part of the team promoting it and you’ll often find me answering your queries too!
I have also attended many seminars including canine nutrition, raw feeding, breeding, health and T Touch.

I am delighted to be joining the Akela show team this year. I have always had dogs, mostly, rescues. What got me really interested was obedience and working trials. Sadly recent dogs have been unable to make the grade through various medical and other issues. My family and I have farming community links and we have run a smallholding with experience in ethical pig and turkey rearing. That meant I was lucky enough to home rescue horses and donkeys, and of course feral cats keeping an eye on everything.
I have been in the pet trade since 1989. I have taught Pet Shop and business management at the local agricultural college. I have been around the show circuit with trade stands throughout that time, so you may recognise me on meeting. I saw Akela first on the show circuit and it met with my growing belief in that it is the way forward with nutrition. When I was asked to work with them this year I was made up. I would love to meet with existing Akela feeders to hear your stories, how you have found feeding, what worked for you etc. Please come and say hello if I am on the stand. I do look forward to meeting you somewhere in the UK.
