Akela kibble is extruded with a Thermal Twin extruder using the lowest temperatures possible; producing more digestible foods without the nutrient degradation that can be seen at high temperature processing. The extrusion and drying processes do not use very high temperatures – just over 90 degrees centigrade (the minimum for safety reasons) and under 180 degrees centigrade - this is lower than you would cook a pizza at! This means that proteins stay highly digestible and natural vitamins and minerals survive the process better. Some ingredients are added after extrusion too - for example all vitamin levels stated in the nutritional additive section are added after cooking to guarantee minimum levels.

We switched our border collie puppy over to akela small paws fish feast from autarky at 10 weeks of age (after slowly adding akela over two weeks).
He loves the food, he's always excited for meal times and never a crumb left. He likes it so much we can use it as training treats around distractions if we need to!
His eyes are bright, nose wet and he's not at all hyperactive but is always ready for training/adventuring.
His stools have decreased in frequency since we switched to akela.
On autarky he was toileting several times a day and they were a little soft and quite smelly, now on autarky he goes once after each meal and his stools are always firm (kickable) and far less smelly.
Would love to see this food in the shops! Have already recommended this food to a few people and will continue to do so!
We have tried the akela original (meaty one) as well and rate it just as highly, stools remained just as good whilst feeding the meaty akela, we chose the fish feast as our main food because of having a puppy fish is a little gentler on tums.
Would also recommend the akela 80/20 (fish/potato) 500g treat bag! awesome value and awesome treats!! (Posted on 04/10/2015)
